POWER REP BASKETBALL PROGRAM

The POWER Rep. Basketball Program offers opportunities to players who wish to take their game to a higher level. The focus of the rep program will be on skill and team development. What separates the rep program from the house league program is the level of competition that players will confront and the level of commitment demanded of each player. It is our intent to provide opportunities for participation at the rep level for boys and girls for the following age groups:

  • Novice (ages 7-9) - AVAILABLE

  • Atom (age 10) - Coming SOON

  • Major Atom (age 11)- - Coming SOON

  • Bantam (age 12) - - Coming SOON

  • Major Bantam (age 13) - - Coming SOON

  • Midget (age 14) -- - Coming SOON

  • Major Midget/JUEL Prep (age 15) -- - Coming SOON

  • Juvenile/JUEL (ages 16-18)-- - Coming SOON

Participation in the rep program is open to all players, however, it is contingent upon trying-out and making a team.  If your son or daughter does not make the POWER team we have other programs within the POWER that may be of an option like POWER Select Teams  (coming soon) .

The rep season will run simultaneous to and extend beyond the house league season. It will consist of minimum one/two weekly practices and participation in a number of Basketball Ontario  tournaments.  All participants in the rep program will be required to pay a fee which will be determined prior to tryouts.

The POWER  rep. Basketball program  will be affiliated with the Ontario Basketball Association (O.B.A.) as well as  Canadian Youth Basketball League (CYBL). Players at the Rep. level must demonstrate exceptional skill, athleticism and strong commitment to the game of basketball.

The Players are selected through a series of open tryouts in late summer and early fall. (Please follow us on social media and keeping checking this site when tryouts will be taking place).  There is a small fee to tryout for our rep teams ranging from $10 – $25 dollars.  The rep. season runs from September  to June.  Teams will play in various leagues and also play other O.B.A affiliated clubs and play in  3 to 5 tournaments including the Provincial Championships.

PLAYER COMMITMENT

POWER  Rep. Basketball program is intended for athletes who are committed and serious about playing basketball at a competitive level.  It is very difficult to play competitive basketball and another competitive sport.  Players are expected to put rep basketball ahead of any other team sport.  School work/activities always take precedence over rep basketball.

PARENTAL COMMITMENT

POWER Rep. basketball is a volunteer organization and every parent of every  player is expected to commit to a volunteer effort to help the teams run. This commitment need not be more than a few hours on an occasional basis, but it is essential. Your Managers (who are also volunteers!) will outline the volunteer jobs during the first team meeting.

GOALS

The individual team goals may vary based on the age of the players on the team coach. All teams will focus on skill development, teamwork and sportsmanship in a competitive environment.

TYPICAL SCHEDULE

During the season teams will practice one  to three times per week for 1 to 2 hours( depending on the age). For the teams that do not start their season immediately (high school aged players), they will practice once a week until their season begins. Teams will usually compete in league sessions, a number of away tournaments on weekends,  and the OBA Provincial Championships ( if applicable).  The tournaments and league games usually take place in south-central Ontario.  There may also be opportunities to participate in tournaments in Quebec and in the United States.

HOW LONG IS THE SEASON?

Tryouts or identification programs begin in  September.  CYBL  and OBL games start in NOVEMBER for most REP ages and last up to March/April .

E.G> Girls and boys age 10-14 begin once the team has been picked and end with provincials (end of March beginning of April). Girls age 15-16 begin once the high school season ends and their rep provincials are at the end of April. Boys age 15-16 begin once the high school season ends and their rep provincials are the middle of May. Atom level teams (ages 10-11) wrap up shortly before or just after Easter. Other teams will play later in the year.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

The individual player fees ranging from $800 to $1000 for the season, dependent upon the age of the players (high school players need larger gyms and for longer periods of time), the number of tournaments entered and the amount of fundraising. These fees include the CYBL or OBA  registration fee (TBD), insurance coverage, gym rental, tournament fees, etc. Additional fees / fundraising will be needed for travel arrangements and extra uniforms.
